We%26#39;ve been going to the outer banks for quite a while now, but always in June or July. We are considering going next year in mid August and/or the second week in September. What is the usual rainfall like in August and September. We have been very fortunate and only ran into two to three days of rainy weather in six years in June/July.
I get the whole hurricane/tropical storm thing, so I%26#39;m just talking averages here.
Thanks.
Rainfall - July vs. August/Sept.
Having gone during all the periods you reference, I haven%26#39;t noticed any difference in rainfall. That is, unless there is a hurricane, which as you mentioned, is more likely in the August/September months. Buy the travel insurance.

You will not find much difference in rainfall than you do in SC. August tends to get more of the late day thunderstorms that move fairly quickly.

Thanks so much for your quick responses.
We always vacation in late August. Two years ago a thunderstorm%26#39;s winds blew so hard that the front door warped and the landing got wet. We had never experienced anything like that in the previous 6 visits. We%26#39;ve had to use vacation insurance one time. I also recommend buying it.

Thanks, I always get insurance, regardless to the time of year. Since we make our reservations a year in advance, you never know what could come up.
