I have used Surf or Sound realty...once and that was it. The home we rented was not finished. Dana at surf or sound was rude, rude, rude. The walkway to the beach was not there. The walls had primer on them not paint. Paintings were leaning against the walls. Railings were loose. Nails on the deck were sticking out at least 2 inches. The one master bath had no door knobs on the bathroom cabinet doors. They had taped bread ties to the doors so you could pull the doors open...Yes...BREAD TIES..ridiculous.

I had to file with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission to get any compensation for this joke of a vacation home and that only happened on the last day of our vacation. NEVER EVER USE THEM......

Words cannot express the rude, ridiculous excuses DANA gave me. That this person still works there only means that the owners of surf or sound do not care about their customers.... RUN as FAST as you can away from surf or sound!!!!!!

Welcome to TA. You should have visited sooner. If you use the search engine at the top of the forum, you will find LOTS of previous posts about Surf or Sound Realty.

Sorry you had to deal with such negative issues on your vacation.

If you thought Dana was rude, be VERY thankful that you didn%26#39;t have to deal with Sherry. As unwilling to help as Dana was, Sherry was indescribable in her lack of customer service skills. She was totally rude and talked to me like I was an idiot when I tried to discuss the problems we had.

As a property owner in the OBX, I am sorry you had this experience. I do not use this company for my rentals, as I have never heard of them until now.

You may want to check out a couple of websites and post this information for others to see. The first is the Chamber of Commerce, they may be very interested to see this information.

Please do not use this aweful experience as a reflection of rentals in the OBX. There are many fantastic rental companies you can use with great reputations.

I totally agree with you about the rudeness of the whole company. I rented through Surf or Sound this past summer and had a horrible experience. The manager, Sue Fountain, was the worst person I have ever run into. She didn%26#39;t have an ounce of customer service in her. She actually yelled at me and the people I was staying with. NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! I have rented with other companies for the past 15 years, and never ran into something like this. In the future, I would recommend, Hatteras Realty, or Sun Realty.

Surf or Sound is HORRIBLE and I will tell as many people as possible.

The house we rented (Wahoo in Waves) was FULL of cockroaches!!! (We are not talking about one or two bugs here-- they were EVERYWHERE!) We got there on a Sunday and everyone was out of the office, so we had to spend the first night at a hotel. We then went and complained and they told us, ';That does not make the house uninhabitable';. They sent out an exterminator to spray, but would not compensate us in ANY way. They expected us to live in an infested house with cockroaches crawling out to die after the exterminator came.

We ended up renting another house through Midgett (They were WONDERFUL!).

We paid for both houses that week because Surf or Sound is such a nasty company. NEVER rent with them!!

And I agree, everyone we dealt with was EXTREMELY RUDE.

We rented from Surf or Sound two summers ago.

It was a wonderful house but when we tried to use the oven, it wasn%26#39;t usable. Full of crud after someone had sprayed it with oven cleaner and turned it on to bake off. Reeked of oven cleaner and we had to scrape the oven with a spatula then leave it on to burn off the smell.

Hot tub didn%26#39;t work.. course no one is around on Sunday to fix these things. Was fixed (finally) by Wednesday. They did give us a bit of a discount however. Interent.. also wasn%26#39;t working and didn%26#39;t work until Tuesday.

A month after our trip, we were sent a bill for $700 to replace a chipped porcelain sink. First off, we didn%26#39;t chip the sink and second.. a month later just sending a bill with some black and white photo that seemed as if it was taken at one of those phone booths ? Seriously?

The owner claims to always check her home after guests leave, but if she actually DID that she might KNOW the Hot Tub didn%26#39;t work, internet.. didn%26#39;t work and the Oven was of no use until we cleaned it.

Tried to tell us we had to pay for the sink but LO AND BEHOLD.. we paid insurance and so they wrote it off. Oddly enough, we paid the ';peace of mind'; insurance and they still tried to bill us.

I don%26#39;t remember the managers name but she was not too bad to talk to and we worked it all out - didn%26#39;t pay for the sink
