Pop Up Canopies on the beach

Hello again everyone, I was wondering if it is legal or even advisable to leave canopies up on the beach overnight? I do not mind too much taking them down everynight but the anchoring against the wind may get old after a couple of days.

By The way I will be staying in Duck and using the beach in the Wampum Dr area.

I don%26#39;t know about it being illegal, but it probably is not considerate to do so. You many not be able to see them if you are walking in the dark on the beach. Plus there is just something about strolling the beach in the afternoon or evening without all the chairs, umbrella%26#39;s etc. Also, there is a good chance it could be gone in the morning. Having to lug the stuff to the beach and put it up is just part of the beach experience. :)

We have a beach canopy that can be ';folded'; down. We take the top off and fold it down to the sand. We park it in the soft sand so it%26#39;s really not in the way of walkers.

Things to keep in mind: Night walkers, the driving beach patrol vehicles, and unexpected storms turning your canopy frame into a flying heep of metal.

like the previous poster, i%26#39;m not sure of the legality, but it is most considerate to take them down. while if you park them in the soft sand out of the way of most beach walkers, you%26#39;ll find that children arent typical beach walkers but tend to be excited while say, chasing a ghost crab and night, thus running head first into your canopy (since the kid will be looking at the ground).

enjoy your stay :)

I just read last night in the local North Beach Sun newsletter that Duck will no longer permit canopies to be left overnight. They will remove them. Too dangerous for folks walking the beach at night.

Thanks for that info-so glad someone finally made this ruling.

Thanks everyone.
