Charleston to Nags Head

Trying to get from Charleston SC to the Best Western in Kill Devil Hills. Want to do one of the ferry%26#39;s and come up the coast from Ocracoke. Not to worried about time but have two kids in car so can%26#39;t be too long. Anyone been on Rte 17 North? Is it stop lights etc through all the coastal towns? Am I better taking 95 to Rocky Mount and coming inland there? Any help appreciated.

Not sure of 17 in South Carolina but you do run into a few lights going threw different towns the hard part of going this way is getting to the ferry on time as you need to be there an hour before it leaves reservations are required now as is prepayment. the ferry trip I think is 2 1/2 hrs and not a lot for kids to do on the ferry. then you will need to take a second ferry from Ocracoke (Free) to Hatteras only 40 minutes . Depending on the time of day that ferry wait can be some times a hour or more.

It is a long drive from Charleston to the Outer Banks. Our daughter, her husband and our grandkids live on HHI, south of Charleston. We%26#39;ve looked at the ferries, but always come up I-95 to Rocky Mount. Takes us about 8 1/2 hours HHI to Duck. I%26#39;m sure it is faster than 17 and the ferries.
