Newbie Help Needed - Southern Shores/Nags Head Mile Markers?

We are new to OBX - renting a home for our first time and staying in a town called ';Southern Shores'; _ Is this close to Nags Head - our friends are in Nags Head and keep talking about a ';mile marker'; - well all our agent said was Southern Shores - Ocean Blvd - no mile marker?

Newbie Help Needed - Southern Shores/Nags Head Mile Markers?

If you come over the Wright Memorial Bridge from the north (Virginia) when you get over the bridge the mile markers start at zero. You will see a tiny sign ever half mile on the right side of the bypass and the beach road - these are the mile markers. They are helpful references to places, ie: our office is at the 2 mile post, this helps you find things easier.

When you come over that bridge, Southern Shores is the town on your left, Kitty Hawk is on the right side. If you go south on the bypass you will go 5 miles then enter Kill Devil Hills. Go 5 more miles and you enter Nags Head, so Southern Shores is about 10 miles to Nags Head which is about 5 miles long itself.

The other way to come on to the Outer Banks is from Rt 64 (Rocky Mount). You go over the bridges and the mile markers start when you get to the bypass (intersection of Rt158 and rt 12 which goes south to Hatteras). The mile marker here is 16.
