No Smoking in NC Restaurants?

I heard they are trying to pass a law that all North Carolina Restaurants will be non-smoking? We have that in New York, no smoking in public buildings. So what%26#39;s up?

Virginia has done it. Dec 1 it goes into effect.

Yes ! It applies to all Public Places.And as a Non-Smoker I welcome it.

Actually, It has been passed by the legislature here, but the Governor has not signed it into law yet.

The governor is going to sign it and it will take effect Jan 1. Hooray!

Right in the middle of tobbaco country, I thought that there would be more negative feeling on this. The again, your in the ';bible belt'; also, and how many Gentlemen Clubs are in the area?

I have mixed views on the no smoking band.

I have mixed feelings too. As a nonsmoker and former bartender, I really like the idea.

On the other hand, I hate the thought of the government dictating what private businesses can or cannot do.

Done deal now. I agree with you diad. Let freedom ring ...or not. Its not so much this issue but where will it end. I guess all the restaurants will have to become private clubs.

It will be interesting to see how the bars react to the new law on Jan. 1st. So many of them have A LOT of smokers that frequent their bars.

Here in NY a lot of bars have put up ';butt huts';. Theses are little patio%26#39;s or huts that are set up outside of the bar or restaurants. Of course there are rules to be followed about the construction of these huts. I am a non-smoker and this brings up my problem with the no-smoking ban.....

When entering almost all public places, you have to pass by these nasty places(butt huts). Old and new cigarette butts littered here and there, usually a lot of smoke, depends on the crowd, even when proper ashtrays are provided. Parking lots and driveways are also littered with butts, because people who would have normally gone to a restraunt for lunch or dinner are now smoking in the parking lots, or in their own cars.(Which in turn has brought up another issue, smoking with young children in your car-second hand smoke).

It is a very complex issue. With no easy answers.

I will say my biggest complaint(maybe only complaint) in Topsail, is the cigarette butts in the sand on the beach. Nothing is worse than sitting there sifting your feet throught the sand, playing with the kids, and have some nasty butt appear! I see tons of people carrying their dogs crap in plastic bags, why can%26#39;t smokers take care of their butts?
