Need a plan for Asheville area...bike,tube,slide

Will be traveling through this area on our way to Hilton Head Island late July. We have a 10 year old son and 5 year old daughter. Husband is an avid mountain biker (although there are no %26#39;mountains%26#39; in Chicago -ha) and wants to do a little. I think a nice tube float down a river would be nice. And I think my son would enjoy Sliding Rock/Pisgah area.

Any advice on how to put these together? Specific locations or places to do these activities?

Thanks so much!

how much time are you planning on spending here and where are you staying? www.exploreasheville.com may help a bit.

Can stay as long as needed and anywhere!

Sliding Rock would be fun, but be prepared--it is COLD. :O) The Pisgah area is very beautiful specifically the DuPont Forest area. They have trails that you can hike (or bike) and they are relatively easy to some more strenuous. It is known as the ';land of waterfalls';.

I would stay in the Asheville area though which is only about 45 minutes from the above. There is a lot to see and do. Brookstone Lodge is a new hotel that would be a great place to stay with the family. It is just one exit away from the Biltmore Parkway and the Blue Ridge Visitor Destination Center. You are also within walking Distance of Asheville%26#39;s Fun Depot which would be great for your 2 children to run around and play.

You will love Hilton Head as well. Have fun.

There are a number of mountain biking trails around ASheville but probably the best known is Bent Creek that is near the Arboreteum. You may be able to make everyone happy as you and the kids could play at Lake Powhatan while your husband bike rides.

As far as places to stay...having an 11 yr old ourselves...I%26#39;d definitely recommend someplace with a pool! You may want to think about Crowne Plaza which often Pricelines. If you are staying longer you might want to consider a vrbo.com

Of course the more expensive proposition would be Grove Park Inn that also has a summer kids camp during the day with activities for kids so parents can do tennis, golfing, spa treatments etc.

i would recommend going to graveyard fields off the parkway - nice swimming holes. sliding rock is also fun, but yes, cold! i am from the small down of saluda, 30 miles south of asheville on I-26. go there for tubing on the green river!
