Best Location for 1/2 day Picnic and Hike?

Hi there-

We%26#39;ll be visiting Asheville in the coming weeks and I was just wondering if you might have a recommendation for a great hike and picnic...probably can afford to spend 4-hours not including driving to destination...ideally would love to pair with Sliding Rock trip if there are some good locations around it or something within a 30 minute drive...

Thanks!

For a hike I would go on a weekday and go to Graveyard Fields at milepost 418 on BRP. The hike isn%26#39;t too long and goes to two waterfalls. It may be busy on the weekend. You might find a picnic area there. If not their are plenty of tables along 276 down fron Sliding Rock. They are all located on the beautiful trout stream Looking Glass Creek.

Go about 6 miles south of Sliding Rock and see Looking Glass Falls. Last Fridays New York Times had a picture of it on the front of it%26#39;s travel page.

i agree, graveyard fields is awesome. and not far from sliding rock. also check out devil%26#39;s courthouse, just a mile or so from graveyard fields and a quick hike with an amazing view.
