Places(s) to visit on our way from Asheville

We have part of the day available returning from Asheville to the airport in Charlotte; please suggest things to do or places to visit. Thanks.

Places(s) to visit on our way from Asheville

When, how much time, who is ';we';?

What are you interested in? Shopping, hiking, historical places, maybe lunch?

Places(s) to visit on our way from Asheville

My wife and I will travel by car from Asheville early in the morning and the flight from Charlotte leaves around 6 PM; mainly interested in sightseeing.

Not much between Charlotte and Asheville. If you just want to kills some time - here are a few suggestions:

1. Hickory Furniture Mart on Highway 70 in Hickory, NC ( about halfway)

2. Woodmill Winery in Lincolnton - http://woodmillwinery.com/

3. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont - http://www.dsbg.org/index.php ( just a few minutes from the airport).

4 Billy Graham Library and Museum - www.billygraham.org/BGLibrary_Index.ASP

( just a couple of miles from the airport...and FREE!).

Best wishes.

You might want to go via Highway #74-A past Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure ( Dirty Dancing site). It%26#39;s a pretty stretch and 87.9 FM is a great radio station to listen to while you ride the back roads.

You%26#39;ve received some great suggestions so far. I too was going to mention the Chimney Rock/Lake Lure area, and this also happens to be a great time (spring) to head on over to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC (was there just last week and the colors are amazing).

A few other suggestions:

Kings Mountain State Park

Kings Mountain National Military Park

http://www.nps.gov/kimo/

U.S. National Whitewater Center

http://www.usnwc.org/

(even if you don%26#39;t feel like joining in the action still a great place to watch all the activity, an/or have lunch at the River%26#39;s Edge Bar %26amp; Grill while you%26#39;re there - No entrance fee other than $5 for parking)

There%26#39;s also several museums in the area too (Charlotte) if you so desire.

Have fun!

Thank you very much for all the info.
