Trip to Asheville

We will be in Asheville for 5 days. What are the highlights for us to visit? Where do you recommend staying that won%26#39;t break the bank? Any highlights on activities? Any highlights for dinning?

Trip to Asheville

I think you will find that you will get better advice if you are a bit more specific. For example:

-what time of year are you visiting?

-What types of activities to you enjoy? hiking? antiques? shopping?

-what type of food do you like and how much do you want to spend?

-are you travelling w/ or w/o children?

-do you like staying in large hotels w/ many amenities, inns/B%26amp;B%26#39;s or do you prefer more budget accommadations?

Hi jsegall125-

The top highlight in Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. It%26#39;s amazing! No matter what time of year you go there, it%26#39;s great - in the spring there are gorgeous flower displays, in the summer it%26#39;s great to wander the huge castle-like house that%26#39;s nice and cool (unlike outside), in the fall they deck the place out with harvest decor, and the Christmas display cannot be beaten.

You can easily spend two days at the Biltmore, or narrow it down to one if your budget doesn%26#39;t allow. Another must-do (any time there isn%26#39;t a snowstorm, that is) is to ride Blue Ridge Parkway nearby. It%26#39;s one of the most gorgeous routes in the country no matter the season, but it%26#39;s even more spectacular in the fall (late October).

Here%26#39;s a link that might be helpful - it%26#39;s a road trip through Asheville and along Blue Ridge Parkway. planning-fun-road-trips.com/free-road-trip-p…

I also recommend visiting the downtown area and just wandering around/shopping. Asheville is wonderful - have a great trip!

i would recommend outdoor activities in the area - drive the blue ridge parkway, stop at graveyard fields and hike down for a picnic or to swim. also hike up to the top of devil%26#39;s courthouse, it is a quick walk despite how it looks from the bottom. also off the parkway you can go to sliding rock, which is really fun in summer. hiking up looking glass rock is amazing too. really strenuous but worth it when you get up there! also i am from the small down of saluda, 30 miles south of asheville on I-26. small ';cute'; town with a main street with eclectic shops, and people love to kayak and tube on the green river. (eat at purple onion if you make it to saluda.)

of course everyone recommends the biltmore house in asheville. also check out the scene downtown.
