Bus Yes Train No.There are also Shuttle Services that can take you.

I would seriously think about driving to Wilmington from RDU. To take the bus, you would have to catch a TTA shuttle bus to ';Triangle Metro Center';, aka parking lot in RTP, catch a second bus to Downtown Raleigh, maybe a third bus to Greyhound, and then a Grayhound bus the takes 5 hours for trip that takes a little over two hours (not counting your TTA adventure). Unless you want to see Goldsboro, Kinston and Jacksonville and all of eastern NC, I would drive. Plus, once you get to Wilmington, how would you get around?

Also, Friday is the beginning of the spring Furniture Market in High Point. A lot of people fly into RDU and drive to High Point. It is a very difficult time to get a rental car at RDU. If you are flying in next week, I would have a reservation in hand before leaving the UK.

Hi both,

Thanks for the responses.

If i give you a bit more info, maybe you could help me come to the right decision.

My sister lives in Wilmington and we will be staying with her (with access to a car). However, the day we fly back to the UK (13th June), she is not able to drive us to RDU.

If the bus is such a nightmare, she could take us the night before and we could stay overnight and make our own way to RDU from Raleigh centre.

Or would a shuttle bus be cheaper than a night in a hotel for two people?

Would you have a link to a website for a company that offers this service?

Thanks

Since Wilmington is so far from RDU, I do not think any shuttles are available. In fact when I fly out of RDU, I often hear the local USO club making announcements over the PA system if anybody is traveling back to Goldsboro or Jacksonville, are they willing to give a ride for a US service member. Both of these locations are much closer to RDU than Wilmington.

RDU is surrounded by many hotels on Aviation Parkway and Airport Blvd. When searching for hotels, use Morrisville, NC - not Raleigh - since the airport is in Morrisville. Most should offer a shuttle service to the airport. There are several places to eat on Airport Blvd. that you could catch a quick meal at.

Enjoy your visit to Wilmington.

ok, thanks again for the info.

Also, if you really want a car service, try

Lett%26#39;s Taxi/Limo Service (910-343-3335).

The last time I flew in here I was waiting for a friend from Morehead City (1hr 45 minutes away) to drive down and pick me up. There was a nice older gentlemen who operated a car service (not sure if its letts or not) in the last kiosk near the baggage claim in ILM. I am sure you%26#39;re not the only person to need to go to RDU, so they probably have some flat rates for these trips... just pick up your sister%26#39;s phonebook and call around, otherwise I would say arriving the night before and staying near RDU appears your most viable option.

we recently had a family member in town who needed to spend the nite in raleigh in anticipation for an early am flight out. She stayed at the Hampton Inn at the Raleigh/Durham airport. It was inexpensive, they have free breakfast, and they have a shuttle over to the airport.

The good news is, if your family could take you up the nite before, there are many excellent restaurants you could dine in that evening. Then, get up and shuttle over to the airport.

thanks all for your help. have a few options now.
