What's new this year?

Every year when we arrive in Corolla/Whalehead there is some ';prominent'; new construction. Sometimes good, sometimes unsightly. I hoping to hear ';Fabulous new restaurant near Food Loin';

What's new this year?

ok, just back from Whalehead and the answer this year is:

Nothing.

No new bar/surf shop/tatooo parlour in the parking lot of food loin this year.

What's new this year?

Well, it is one year later and I thought I would ask the question again. Seems like Trip Advisor has a little more traction now.

Hi, Jack. We were in Corolla in April of this year. Looked like there were a couple of new places going in the shopping center at Corolla Light. Also, there is a new grocery store coming. I think it%26#39;s a Harris Teeter.

We ate at the Wild Horse Cafe, and actually had the owner wait on us. The food was good. Our favorite is probably Mike Dianna%26#39;s Grill and Grouper%26#39;s Grille. Still, not that much has changed from last year. Pretty quiet. Which is good IMHO.

Loved our stay on the sound except for the last day when the jet skiers were out.

Hi Avian, thank for the information.

Do you know where the Harris Teeter will be? I know the Food Lion does a lot of business but is there really enough for two supermarkets? On the other hand, if HT is more upscale than FL, then they might push the FL out business.

Jack, according to their website, the Harris Teeter has already opened and is by the Currituck Club. Sounds much better than the Food Lion, but not as convenient if staying farther north. I would venture a guess that the area could support both stores. Even when we were there in April, the store was very crowded on the weekends.

Hope you enjoy your trip back from the UK. Will you be stocking up on anything in particular to take back? My niece just moved to New Zealand and she is already asking for Reeses Cups!

The Harris Teeter IS open. My husband and I wandered through it last night. There are lots of things that%26#39;ll go well with vacationers - prepacked meals and sandwiches, good bakery, etc. I think there%26#39;ll be room enough for both stores in the summer, but winter will be tough.

Also, there are several new stores near the entrance to Corolla Light. There%26#39;s a Philly cheesesteak place among them, by the way.

The nature center between the Whalehead Club and the lighthouse hasn%26#39;t opened quite yet, but looks very close. This should be an interesting addition.

Harris Teeter is a very upscale grocer...lovely things one can%26#39;t find in many other stores. We used to have one in our area but it was taken over by another company so when we travel if we find ourselves near one we stop in for some of the special goodies, for ourselves and as gifts.

It%26#39;s 2007 and time for my annual ';What%26#39;s New'; question. The 2006 highlight being the Harris Teeter, of course.

It is 2008 and time for my annual What%26#39;s New? inquiry.

It wouldn%26#39;t be spring without raising this thread again.

Since nothing new has happened in Corrola/Whalehead since the opening of Harris Teeter 3 years ago can we conclude that the area is now saturated?
