OBX late August - Why such a BIG price difference?

We%26#39;re looking to get more for our money this year %26amp; are considering vacationing at the end of Aug to get a better deal. Why is there such a BIG price difference w/ rentals at this time? I understand a sronger risk of hurricane but is that all...figure it has to be cheaper for a good reason(s).

Rates are lower because most kids are back in school by then, so the demand drops off sharply.

If school dates are not an issue for you, the end of August and first few weeks of September are fabulous. The weather is still hot but the crowds have gone home for the most part because schools have started. We own a rental home in the OBX and we always reserve the first week of September for our use because it%26#39;s a great time to be at the beach. The hurricane risk is there all summer long.

Yes, some are even lower Sept. 6.

That%26#39;s our favorite time of the year to go down - good value and great weather - unless you get chased off by a hurricane (which has never happend to us - knock on formica!).

I think it is the best time of year too, however, the risk of hurricanes is much greater Mid August to October than earlier in the summer. Just be sure to inquire about insurance-it is worth it.

This will be our 5th year going at that time and never had a problem with hurricanes. Knock on wood

We used to visit in late August and September for years and spent a few minutes each morning checking the weather channel watching the storms heading off Africa and across the Atlantic. Dogged a few, but never had to evacuate.

NC Public Schools go back earlier than most other school systems. So the price drops.

My big word of advice: If you rent this time of year (late August/September)...PAY THE EXTRA MONEY FOR THE HURRICANE INSURANCE!!!

My parents have owned various rental homes down there since %26#39;83 and I%26#39;ve seen people regret it time and time again.
