ocean dunes condos

We are staying at a condo at Ocean Dunes in Kure Beach rented to us by Atlanticshores Reality. Does anybody know anything about this condo? We have 4 children ages 8-16. Was Kure beach a good decision or will tehy be bored? Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi. We too are staying there at Easter time. We have always stayed in Carolina beach which is a few miles north of Kure Beach. The aquarium at Fort Fisher is about a mile from where you will be. Not too much night life, but a great family vacation. The Deckhouse in Carolina Beach is the best restaurant we have ever eaten in. Very fresh, very reasonably priced. All in all, great family vacation. Your teenagers might like a day/evening in Wilmington (the college town).

Thanks for your reply. I hope to see a post from you after your vacation with a (hopefully good) review! :)

Hi,

Don%26#39;t know much about Ocean Dunes, but Carolina, Kure and Fort Fisher all run together. Your family will really enjoy the aquarium and might also enjoy taking the Ferry over to Southport which is a quaint litte seaside town. If you really want to venture out head toward wrightsville beach and have dinner at the Blue Water Grill that is right on the intercoastal water way. Excellent food and a casual but nice dining expereince. Enjoy your trip!

The ferry sounds pretty neat. How far away is Wrightville beach? How much does is cost? We definately want to do the aquarium and Fort Fisher. Thanks for the advice!

This is a great area for families.

We use to take our kids there every summer when the boys were little. We are thinking of going back to Carolina Beach this summer. Anyway, spencernurse, your family might also enjoy going to the USS North Carolina in Wilmington. You can tour the battleship. Very interesting. Do go on the ferry to Southport. Fun for everyone.

Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach are maybe 20-30 minutes from Kure.

Have fun!

Is this the Civil war battlefield area that you%26#39;re talking about? My husband is a civil war buff and said that there is a battlefiel in this area.

I was wondering if you%26#39;ve gone to Kure Beach yet. We are going in June and will be staying directly across the highway from you (in The Riggings) I took my first vacation to Carolina Beach when I was thirteen and have been going every since (Now 35). Just in case you%26#39;ve not gone yet, Ft. Fisher is the Civil War battlefield, about 1 mile south of Ocean Dunes. There is a museum there in a brick building just off the road. Farther south from there is the ferry ride across the Cape Fear River, and costs $5 a car last time we went. Near there is the Aquarium. The USS Battleship NC is in Wilmington, about 30 minutes north of Ocean Dunes. A helpful suggestion: Use Dow Road, which is a bypass around all the red lights and traffic of Carolina Beach. it gets you from the northern tip of the island to the bottom in a lot less time than if you stay on Hwy 421 S the whole way. As you drive onto Pleasure Island, pass Food Lion at the bottom of the hill and turn right soon after and follow Dow Rd to the end, then turn right back onto Hwy 421 South. This really saves a lot of hassle. If you%26#39;ve already taken your trip, sorry! but maybe someone else can benefit??

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. We are going the last week of june. I just printed your post and put it in with our maps. It%26#39;s amazing how much just the little bit of hints really help! Thanks again.

Hi spencernurse! I, too, am from Spencer and have been enjoying the Kure Beach area since I was tiny. My husband and I take our 14-year old and one of her friends every year, and it%26#39;s a great place to relax. Like an earlier post said, not much nightlife -- but with 2 teenagers, I don%26#39;t mind at all. If you or your husband like to fish, the pier fishing at Kure Beach is excellent. Ocean Dunes is a great place to stay, especially with all the pools and indoor activities (if it rains.) My family is going the third week in June.

Thanks, Spencermom! Actually, I%26#39;m from Elmira, NY. (My last name is Spencer) Going into the unknown is always scary, so it was nice to hear that Kure Beach is what we are expecting in our vacation. ( Quiet, relaxing, sand and water) . Have a nice 1 yourselves!
