Although we%26#39;ve lived in the Carolinas most of our lives, we%26#39;ve never managed to spend any time in Beaufort, NC. We hope to correct that with a brief visit in June. I would appreciate any feedback on a few questions -
Looking for suggestions for a ';nice'; restaurant for one dinner. Prefer seafood or Italian rather than steak, don%26#39;t need linens or wine cellars, but looking for something a notch above tourist food quality, relaxing, not too rushed and not too noisy.
Also, anywhere casual in Beaufort with live music - a burger joint is fine? Somewhere to just kick back and sample some of the local talent.
Finally, we%26#39;re casual bikers and often haul along our bicycles for cruising around town. We recognize that in many coastal areas during summer, that can often be akin to signing a death warrant. What%26#39;s the verdict - is Beaufort bike friendly in summer?
Thanks for your help.
First Visit Questions
I think you are in for a treat. Beaufort is an historic village with an excellent waterfront, ideal for strolling or biking. Front St., the main commercial street, extends down Taylor%26#39;s Creek offering a possible wild horse sighting on Carrot Island. The residential areas are almost totally restored and the churches and cemetary are well worth checking out. There are plenty of good restaurants. For lunch, I might suggest Clauson%26#39;s, the Royal Cafe, or for a water view, Spouter%26#39;s or Stillwater. For a nice dinner, my favorites are Blue Moon Bistro and Beaufort Grocery. The NC Maritime Museum may be of interest and if you have time, a boat trip to Cape Lookout is highly recommended.
There is often live music on the public dock, or what I think used to be called the Dockhouse ( bad food but cold beer) and at Clauson%26#39;s.
