Mother Daughter Weekend Trip Suggestions

Hello All -

My mother and I will be traveling to Charlotte in May for a four day weekend. We will also be going to the Biltmore and Raleigh Durham. I am in my mid 20s and she is in her mid 50s - we enjoy great food, museums, and learning about what makes a city/state special. Any suggestions for places to go and things to do?

Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Wow - you are going in opposite directions! Tell us which days you%26#39;ll where ( Asheville and Raleigh) - where are you going first? Staying a couple of nights each place? Asheville is two hours west of Charlotte, Raleigh is three hours east of Charlotte. You%26#39;ll be on the road a lot. I think if you%26#39;ll post your travel itinerary it will help people offer suggestions for stops/visits. Bst wishes.

I agree with Bud, more information would be great. =)

Yes, it is going to be a lot of driving but we are going for four days and are using Charlotte as a base (we are coming from different cities, so it just sort of worked out best this way).

We are planning on doing Raleigh/Durham on Friday and just driving up for the day. Asheville is going to be on Sunday, and we are mainly planning on going there just to see the Biltmore (but are open to suggestions if there is more there to see!). Other than that we dont really have a set itinerary - we are hoping to find out more though about what there is to see!

Raleigh - the museums - archives, history, natural sciences, etc... they are all downtown.

';Halfway'; between Raleigh and Asheville - Old Salem in Winston-Salem. A restored Moravian Colonial town - sort of a mini-Williamsburg. Eat at the Tavern.

Biltmore is a fine choice.

Best wishes.

Saturday is you wanted to kick back and shop a little you could head up to Concord Mills Mall (outlet mall, LOTS of stores) and there are TONS of restaurants right by the mall. I was just there the other night and was very impressed at all the growth. You could also head over to the SouthPark mall which is upscale...again, lots of good places to eat that are generally more upscale as well. If you wanted to stay outdoors a lot of people recommend the White Water Center, haven%26#39;t been yet but would love to go....there is also Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens...a couple winerys in driving distance...really it%26#39;s just going to be what you%26#39;re in the mood for! =)

You could also head over to Ballantyne and go to the resort and have lunch and take advantage of their SPA!

That really is a LOT of driving for such a short time...

While it%26#39;s true you%26#39;ll have a lot of mother-daughter bonding time in the car, you may want to consider cutting out a city just so that you have more time to enjoy yourselves in one or two areas.

For history, Winston-Salem is terrific for a day. That%26#39;s only a couple of hours west of Raleigh-Durham, or about an hour and a half north of Charlotte (if that). I believe there are some wineries not too far from there so you could feasibly do both in a day. Check the hours of the wineries, though - I think they usually offer tours and tastings earlier in the day...

In and around Charlotte, there is the Alexander Hezekiah House, Mint Museums of history AND Craft and Design, Levine Museum of the New South, King%26#39;s Mountain Military Park (where a key strategic battle in the revolutionary war took place)...

In downtown Asheville, there is a yummy Morrocan/Middle Eastern restaurant that I LOVE. Coincidentally, my new favorite restaurant in Charlotte is Jerusalem Restaurant - also Middle Eastern - if you go there, try the lamb chops, medium rare - delicious! (If you aren%26#39;t a vegetarian, that is...)

Good luck!
