Nags Head Trip - Avoid Resort Realty

We just completed a fantastic trip to the Outer Banks and a stay in Nags Head. Everything was great except for the place we stayed. We rented a mid-priced, four bedroom house from Resort Realty. Location was great, right on the oceanfront, but that%26#39;s where the positives ended. When we entered the house, it was clear all they had done was cleaned the bathrooms and placed a paper seal across the commodes. Floors were dirty, dusting had not been done for weeks, windows could not be seen out of they were so dirty, furniture appeared as though it was picked up at a garage sale. The very worst part was that while there, we killed two 2 inch cockroaches in the kitchen. Avoid Resort Realty, there%26#39;s many other property companies in the Outer Banks.

Its too bad your house was a bad experience. As a home owner with a rental in Nags Head, I can tell you that there are some good owners and some that don%26#39;t really keep up their houses. Its a lot of maintenance, and expensive. I would blame most of your problems on that vs the agency. You should complain right away when you have those kind of issues, especially insects. They will call a service. Cleaning is a general problem with too many changeovers on Saturday, although the house probably did not get well cleaned before the rental season.

All that said, we used to rent our house through Resort Realty, and have changed to Joe Lamb. They are discriminating in the properties they list and are a great company with happy customers.

We%26#39;ve rented from Resort Realty 5 out of 7 visits. The 6BR oceanfront house with private pool in NH that we rented was the most expensive house I have ever payed for, and it had the least ammenities. There was a lot of maintainence needed (paint, screens, lamp shades, rusted A/C vent covers, etc...) I left quit a long list at check out. The BR level A/C compressor unit had to be replaced on day two, also. I must admit that the house was very clean, except for ants in the kitchen. I have never been sorry for using a RR property until this year.

I%26#39;m sorry about your experience, that really puts a damper on things right from the start. We have always used Joe Lamb Jr. (7 yrs. now) and are very happy with all of the properties we have rented from them (a total of 3 different ones). We have had to call them two different years for some maintenance problems and there was someone there within a few hours (even on Sunday) to make repairs.

I am very sorry to hear about any negative experience with Resort Realty. This makes me nervous. My husband and I rented a small house on Nags Head using Resort Realty. I hope we don%26#39;t run into this problem.

I would not worry about it. Note the date of the original poster. Take pictures of the house when you get there. If it is not to your reasonable standards, contact the office.

Thank you for the advice. My Husband and I have rented a lot of rental homes without any problems. I don%26#39;t want this to be the first one! :o)

We have rented for over 13 years using probably 5 different companies including Surf or Sound-the one everyone seems to have trouble with-and have never had a terrible experience. Any issue has been handled to our satisfaction. We have found the owners and companies to be fine to work with. I do not doubt that others have stories to tell, but we don%26#39;t so....
