Where do folks fly into to go to outer banks? Thanks!

Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Norfolk, VA is the closest major airport. It%26#39;s about an hour 15 mins from OBX. There is a small airport in Manteo, but that%26#39;s for small craft like Cessnas. You%26#39;d have to arrange a private flight from Norfolk to Manteo which I%26#39;m sure would cost a pretty penny. You%26#39;re better off flying into Norfolk and renting a car.

Flights?

ORF is the most popular, but you can often save some money by checking out PHF or Williamsburg airport which is just 15 min west of ORF. 1.5 hrs to PHF can save money and the airport is smaller with easier parking, but less flight choices.

Manteo, KMQI, does have charter flights in and out to some major airports and more than Cessnas can fly in. Jets, King Air%26#39;s and the daily UPS Caravan%26#39;s fly in to that local airport.

Some people have suggested Greenville NC...they found the drive to the outer banks easier. I think that%26#39;s usair though and I think then you%26#39;d connect in Charlotte nc. If you%26#39;re connecting somewhere anyway and if the time and price are waaaay right it%26#39;s a consideration.

Greenville%26#39;s a good 2.5 hours to the OBX and could be more depending on where you want to stay. Go with Norfolk, get an early morning flight and avoid the massive weekend afternoon traffic jam. Might be better if you could find a midweek to midweek rental house. At least the traffic coming in and leaving would be better. A hotel might be a better option for various check in dates.
