We have a Ford Explorer Sport (2001) that we plan to drive to our Twiddy beach rental this May. I am now worried that maybe our 4x4 won%26#39;t have enough clearance on the beach.
Has anyone else drivin and/or seen a SUV like mine on the beach in Carolla? And did it make it ok? :-)
Thanks!
Jen
Will my 4x4 be ok on the beach?
You should be OK stay on hard packed sand when possible, ask for advice on how much air air to let out of you tires, I run the beach at 20-22 psi in Avon.

Thank you for your comments. We are SO excited to start our vacation.
I used to have an AWD Explorer took it to Corollla several times had no problems. However depending on how far up you are staying, be sure to watch out for high tide. Have a great vacation!
You%26#39;ll be fine with your Explorer Sport. Just make sure to air down your tires for best results.
When I was there last month, I saw a Jeep Wrangler trying to maneuver up a sandy incline at the north end of the beach near the border and he couldn%26#39;t make it. He didn%26#39;t get stuck but he couldn%26#39;t make it up the hill for whatever reason. On the other hand, my Yukon Denali AWD, despite all of the fancy bodywork around the bottom, never had a problem. Go figure. Weight? Tire size?
But having owned an Explorer Sport, I can tell you that you%26#39;ll be fine. If you%26#39;re not you can come back and berate me. %26lt;g%26gt;
