Pine Knolls Aquarium has a snorkeling trip on Friday for $25 pp. I%26#39;ve found some diver sites, but have been read cautions on the heavy boat traffic and the strong currents.
I booked the trip for four earlier, but am considering cancelling based on the cautions on dive sites.
Has anyone here snorkeled at Radio Island near Beaufort? Or around Shackleford Banks? If you have, please advise.
Thanks!

I have never snorkeled in this area, however I have done a lot of activities with the aquarium and have yet to be disappointed by any of them. I have found the aquarium staff knows ';hidden'; places to go that are not crowded. After all they are out to insure everyone has a safe fun experience, and to educate people.
The staff members at the aquarium are generally really nice people, so before you cancel I would call and talk with them about your concerns, and get more details on the trip.

Have you snorkeled somewhere else in the nearby area that you could recommend. I do understand that NC is NOT going to be like snorkeling in the Keys. But I really enjoy seeing the fish and finding shells with the snorkels.
Let me know if you have a spot you%26#39;ve snorkeled that you could recommend. Anything in NC will be better than what I can see in Ohio!
I have snorkeled right off the beach in the Pine Knoll Shores area. Of course you don%26#39;t see as much as you do in Florida. We were just doing it because the water happened to be clear the day we went to the beach. Saw a few fish and shells and stuff like that.
The beaches near the Cape Lookout area are pretty nice too, however there you do have to be mindful of the current. You can get a ferry over there for around $10-15/person. Plus that is a neat area to explore and see the light house. http://www.nps.gov/calo/
Have a great trip.
