Preparing Meals

What are some of your easily prepared meals to do while vacationing on the beach?

Preparing Meals

We eat take-out on the first night since we are tired from the drive and un-packing. Bring a crock pot. Prepare your dinner meal in the morning and enjoy the beach, shopping, sight-seeing etc, then come home to a hot, home-cooked meal. Don%26#39;t forget spaghetti is an easy one to do, too. If you%26#39;re renting a house most have a BBQ, so hot dogs and hamburgers are a must. We also buy shrimp and crabs to enjoy out on the deck for one night. There are plenty of grocerys and supermarkets on the island (Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Seamark) and Mom and Pop places, too. Don%26#39;t forget to pick up your snacks and drinks at a Brew Thru.

Preparing Meals

Hi! We are staying at a house, so that will be good! What%26#39;s a brew and thru?

The Brew-Thru is a drive-thru where you can buy snacks and beverages (to go!).

OMG! That is the coolest thing I%26#39;ve heard of - lol! Awesome!

Thanks for the idea of bringing the crock pot! We%26#39;ve been vacationing in rented homes for years (7 in OBX) and I never thought to do this! What a great idea!

Another idea that we%26#39;ve done is tacos. This is easy for everyone.

We go out to dinner on the second to last night (We always have leftovers and I hate to throw them away!)

Lunch is always sandwiches of some sort.

Take an afternoon (maybe while kids are napping) and everyone make something to keep in the refrigerator, such as macaroni salad, fruit salad, sloppy joes (can be reheated in microwave), chicken sandwiches (can be reheated in microwave) and maybe even cheesy potatoes, baked beans, etc. A cheese ball is always nice to have around to go along with that wine and beer. LOL If you go to obxconnection.com, there is a recipe section on that site. Good luck and have fun!

Do you have a list of things you always bring with you? I%26#39;m so afraid I%26#39;m going to forget something - lol!

If you forget something you can get it here . we use to do a lot of cooking the first day then eat left overs the rest of the week. that worked for us on a budget

I make all the salad fixing in zip lock bags and just put them together as needed a simple meat and frozen fries or rice.

If any one complains just tell them the cook is on vacation too

There are places that deliver, as well. We usually have pizza delivered our first night there.

I always bring spices: salt, pepper, sugar, etc., things you regularly use to cook with or need for your coffee on the first morning.

There are some good bagel shops around for a quick start to your morning.

If you eat meat, and if you have room in your car for a cooler, you might want to bring a cooked turkey or ham with you to use for lunches and or dinners.

Consider purchasing your vegetables and fruits from the farmer%26#39;s markets that line the road as you near your destination. They are often better than what%26#39;s available in the stores.

If you are coming down with a group, take turns planning and preparing the meals ahead of time so you know exactly what you need.

Avoid using the oven as much as possible as it adds to the heat inside in the summer.

Hope some of that is helpful!
