Hi All~
Our family vacations on Hatteras Island every year. This year, we decided to go in April when the kids are on their Spring Break to save money on the house rental price. I booked the house on 1-2-09 and subsequently sent in the down payment. A few weeks later, I look on the Outer Beaches Realty website and the price of this rental house has gone down $55.00/wk at the time we%26#39;re going down there. So the folks that rent that same house the week before and the week after me pay $55.00 less than I did. Outer Beaches is saying there%26#39;s nothing they can do. I feel like I%26#39;m being penalized for booking a little early and I%26#39;m really stewing over this. I know it%26#39;s not a lot of money, but in this economy, every little bit helps. Is it unreasonable for me to ask to pay the same amount of money that the renters will pay 1 week ahead and 1 week after me? I realize that they represent the property owners, but as I see it, they wouldn%26#39;t be in business if not for those of us who fork out the dough each year to rent these houses, so I%26#39;m their customer too.
This has really left me feeling very angry with Outer Beaches Realty. Their attitude when I spoke to them didn%26#39;t help. Thanks
Outer Beaches RealtyThis is just my opinion, but I think it is unreasonable to expect a refund from them. Booking early or booking late are both a gamble. You risk paying more by booking early, and you risk not getting what you want by booking late.
There is no way for Outer Beaches to tell if your week would have been rented by someone else. The only reason they discount weeks is to fill in vacancies.
I stew over the same issues. I book early if I see something I like for a price I can live with. And then, I don%26#39;t check the prices again so I don%26#39;t know if I could have paid less. Ignorance is bliss!
I say let it go and enjoy your vacation!
Outer Beaches RealtyWe own a house and rent through another agency. It%26#39;s probably worth mentioning it to the realty company, but the prior poster is correct. We have great rentals and have not had to discount, but as the season gets closer some are doing that to fill the weeks. Many families reserve our house in the fall, or last summer to make sure they get it the week they want.
I should just say, I agree with the other two posters. I do the same as the first poster, if it is in my price range and what I am looking for I book it and forget it. I got what I was looking for, and, particularly in this economy, no business knows what concessions they may have to make to keep in the black on the books. Try to be happy you got your first choice and have a great time!!
Hey if you want to feel a little less badly, we just found out that our august rental through Midgett realty just went down $300!!!!! I called and tried for a credit but knew it would probably be in vain!! They were nice about it but just the same I am paying $300 more than I would of had to! This unit is hardly booked. Oh well, I intend as usual on getting my $300 worth of family fun!
What I do not get is these VRBO...vacation rental bt owner...you look at the houses on the VBRO site and if you send them an email or pull up info you get the same rental companies you have been using for years...why do the owners bother to do the VBRO (which , even if they do not have a rental company, are no less expensive than other houses handled by property managers.
