I am going to Salvo NC the second week of September. I am looking for places to eat, wave runner rentals, where the super market is located, any activites to do, what is the weather like, how warm is the water? I am willing to take any information on Salvo that you may have! Thanks everyone! :)
Any Information on Salvo
Hatteras Water Sports is located in Salvo, I am sure they have info on rentals.
Not much to do in Salvo except enjoy the beach and sound, a very quiet place. It has a few little shops to wander through.
You are close to Rodanthe, and then on down to Avon for more selections for dining. No large grocery stores, more small convenience type. Closest one would be Food Lion in Avon.
Water and air temp will be lovely I am sure-the nicest time of year.
Any Information on Salvo
Thank you so much Lynn!
Lynns info was right on. I love the Top Dog Cafe. They have great sandwiches. Avon is a 15 minute or so drive.
Thanks for the info... My family is looking into a beach house in Salvo this Summer (Casa Verde through Sun Realty) and yours was one of the ony posts I found on the town.. your info was much appreciated.
Salvo is a great little town and the main attraction is the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean. I stayed there as a child, now with children we stay in Avon. In Salvo, the Blue Whale will have plenty of supplies/groceries for you. There is the Food Lion in Avon, and an upscale grocery who%26#39;s name escapes me. (On the right side of road as you head into mid-Avon, the Village Grocer perhaps?)
Plenty of rental places in Salvo and the sound side is great to rent a kayak...you will see pelicans and they are an awesome sight! Do go to Chicamocomico Station, see the old Post Office, and buy a book on the history of the area.
Ocracoke is a great ferry ride from Hatteras Island with some very ncie restaurants. Beaches there are the best on the East Coast. On the way to the ferry, look for the Dancing Turtle Coffe Shop on your right for a great cup of joe...and then grab a coffee or other fruity concoction at the Ocracoke Coffee Shop.
You should have pretty weather and no crowds. Enjoy your trip!
OOOOPS! Dancing Turtle is on the LEFT hand side of road as you near towards the ferries in Hatteras...!
We started staying in Salvo in the mid-80s when Duck began to turn into Bethesda NC (or Fairfax NC) Northern Beaches were great way back in the 70s and early 80s...now they are suburban subdivisions.
Anyways it seems infill development has really turned Salvo into a crowded place (by Hatteras standards). Still in the south part of town (and I use the word ';town'; loosely) there are still some great places to rent. Lots of privacy. We stay in Frisco or Avon these days...more private...more quiet.
Nevertheless I have many great memories of Salvo,,,even the year we were forced to evacuate...that was a trip...there was only one causeway to the Island then. Two days later we were allowed to return and there was almost no damage (not talkin about Isabella which did a lot of damage). This was in the 80s
