Great itinerary! I like that you are doing a lot of natural outdoor stuff, then jet boat rides on Lake Fontana! Looks like you%26#39;re trip will be great fun.

Be sure to post a trip report when you get back!

Thank you. The planning is so much fun. Does anyone want to lay odds we get lost on day 2 getting from Cataloochee to Max Patch? Oh well, it will be fun anyway. I got a great map by calling the National Forest Service, here is the link: http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/ The map is in the Carolina Connections Recreation Guide. There is so much to do in the out of the way places!

You just gave me some ideas for our family trip in June. Thanks. We went gem mining in Franklin last spring and had such a great time. We had never done anything like that so it was a nice adventure for our children. Enjoy it!

I%26#39;m exhausted reading it! LOL. What a healthy family you are! Really - a wonderful trip. Ah - Joyce Kilmer - it%26#39;s magical! I want to go back!

This looks great. I am getting ready to plan our trip and you have given me all the ideas. Have a safe and fun trip

when staying in Asheviile i would suggest the Brookstone lodge

why Brookstone Lodge?

Looks like a great trip planned. On day 5 have hubby fish Big Snowbird and Santeelah Creeks. Both filled with trout.

I really loved reading your itinerary..and would never have known about the mining town of Franklin...my children will love this experience.

Just a question, we are travelling in the opposite direction coming from Hershey to Asheville and then onto Charleston for the Tall Ships...it seems along drive from Hershey, any tips on where to break the journey?

I think our 2 weeks discovering this part of America will be a wonderful experience, thanks so much for sharing your tips!
