Where to go in Downtown Asheville?

I would like to know of some interesting places for walking tours, funky neighborhoods, shopping and just generally great atmosphere. It is going to be our 8th wedding ann. soon and we have decided to spend the day, and only the day in Asheville. So, what%26#39;s up?

Where to go in Downtown Asheville?

I would spend the day walking around Asheville - you can easily cover all of it in a day - depending on how long you stop for lunch and how many shops you go into.

I would think Lexington Ave would fit the ';funky'; description with sushi, book shops, vintage clothing... You%26#39;d probably also enjoy Malaprop%26#39;s books shop downtown and some of the shops and galleries on Broadway.

There are so many food choices that it sort of depends what you%26#39;re in the mood for and what you like..Vegetarian? Laughing Seed and Rosetta%26#39;s Kitchen

Creative and local - Nova and Table

Pizza - Mellow Mushroom or Barley%26#39;s

Tapas - Nova or Zambra%26#39;s

Italian - Cucina 24

Have an appetizer and wine at Sante wine bar in the Grove Arcade...and after dinner head over to the French Broad Chocolate lounge and indulge...

Where to go in Downtown Asheville?

Weaverville has a great little itinerary for you.

Some other suggestions may be if you wanted something a little more ';structured'; you could walk the Urban Trail. You can get a free brochure at the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. It is a 1.7 mile self guided tour that takes you around Asheville telling the history through sculptures around the city. More info at www.urbantrails.net/asheville_nc/urban.html

A Trolley Tour may be something neat. It will give you an overview of Asheville and allow you to get off in an area that you may want to explore more of during your visit.

Don%26#39;t forget the Thomas Wolfe Memorial, which you will pass along the Urban Trail mentioned above. Also, the Grove Arcade is a very nice architectural mall.
