Grocery and Butcher

What is the best bet for fresh and reasonably priced foods in the Duck area? We will be bringing all our staple foods with us but will need to buy cold and fresh foods and meats when we get to our house.

Grocery and Butcher

As you go through Kitty Hawk you will pass a Harris Teeter (behind the McDonalds) and a Food Lion both at mile post 1 just 3-4 traffic lights from the end of the bridge that goes into Kitty Hawk. Duck has Tommy%26#39;s market and there is another Harris Teeter and Food Lion north of Duck in Corolla.

Grocery and Butcher

thank you

From the Ocean Blvd intersection, across from the Crown Gas station, there is a hidden shopping center where Quiznos and Meridian 42 are located. There is a place in there called Coastal Provisions Market (www.coastalprovisionsmarket.com) that has high quality meats and fish and crab cakes and the guys there are very good butchers too. It would be worth a look to be able to avoid the lines at the grocery stores.

Be sure to bring your own bags to carry your groceries in. Our local legislative representative has come up with a rather clever way to tax tourist and locals alike, but tourist might not realize it before it%26#39;s too late. This has been passed by the Senate and is going to the House for vote. They are going to tax you on each grocery bag you get from the store. Apparently, they are not going to tax the bags used for meat items, but I%26#39;m sure they will find a way.... This tax will not effect all of the state, just the outer banks counties, hence tourists. So, please, come and have a wonderful vacation, just remember to carry your own bags for your groceries.

LocalOBX wrote this very incorrect statement:

That is JUST PLAIN WRONG. Localobx you need to check your sources better. That was a plan but it failed.

Here is the real truth, no mention of a tax at all:

RALEIGH, N.C. — The leader of North Carolina%26#39;s Senate is starting at home with a bid to end the use of plastic grocery bags.

The Senate voted 47-1 on Wednesday for a pilot program banning plastic bags in Outer Banks counties. Starting in September, shoppers in Dare, Currituck and Hyde counties could take home their purchase in 100 percent recycled paper.

Senate leader Marc Basnight of Dare County said the measure would apply only to the three counties, but Republican Sen. Tom Apodaca of Henderson County said he hopes the ban spreads statewide.

Supporters said discarded bags are especially a problem on barrier islands that are heavily visited by tourists and where litter on the limited land space is more obvious.
