Can you please give us some advice?? We are visiting Charlotte for 2 days in July and have relatives in Fort Mill. We would prefer to do our own thing, see the sights (including Carowinds) and see them every now and then.
The sixty million dollar question is - should we stay in Uptown, Ballantyne or Southpark or is there a decent, safe hotel nearer to Fort Mill. Is it easy to get to Fort Mill from any of the above areas?
As we are travelling with two teenagers we would prefer a hotel which has suites (2 bedroom ones would be ideal)
Many thanks for your help

I can%26#39;t recommend anything in the Fort Mill area - and you%26#39;ll have a hard time finding a two bedroom suite in Charlotte (Embassy Suites might have some but avoid the one on S. Tryon - bad area). You can find adjoining rooms in some hotels but that would be it.
You might wish to look on vrbo - vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/鈥6214 and rent a condo or home.
Ballantyne area would be a little closer to Fort Mill but Southpark is not much further. Traffic will be your main concern going to and from each place ( especially during rush hour), I%26#39;d forget uptown if your friends are in Fort Mill.Uptown you will have to pay for parking and fight the traffic there and on I-77 ( which at times can be a parking lot).
Best wishes.

Update! Homewood Suites Airport on Yorkmount Rd has 2 bedroom suites. That would be a reasonable distance to Fort Mill, but there%26#39;s nothing around it. It is a quiet location. If you seriously look at it, I have more tips for you on the area.
Thanks for the info on the traffic. I was considering the Residence Inn Charlotte Uptown because they have 2 bedroom suites but don%26#39;t want to spend our holiday in a traffic jam. Will now consider Homewood Suites instead.
I live in the area and don%26#39;t recommend hotels/motels in Fort Mill.
My suggestion would be to stay in Ballantyne. There are several back roads that we can take (avoiding the 485 all together - if traffic is a concern). It takes me a little less than 15 mins. (of course this will vary depending on where your friends live in FM).
As far as suites there in Staybridge Suites, and/or SpringHill Suites (which is pretty new). I have provided the links below:
www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/sb/1/en/hotel/cltcc
marriott.com/hotels/鈥?/a>
There are plenty of dining options nearby.
Southpark is a tad harder to get to from FM and can take anywhere from 20 to 25 minutes (w/no traffic).
p.s. should you decide to stay in Ballantyne just let me know and I%26#39;ll gladly provide you with the back road routes.
Thanks for this information. My relatives actually live closer to Tega Cay. I have now narrowed the hotel choice down to The Residence Inn Marriott Southpark and the Ballantyne Resort and wondering if there is much difference in travelling time to Tega Cay from either of these hotels or is it six of one and half a dozen of the other??
I am located in Tega Cay and as far as the two hotel/resorts that you mention above - there%26#39;d be about a 10 minute traveling time difference (w/no traffic).
Really can%26#39;t go wrong with either one. If you or your family are into golf, or hitting the spa I%26#39;d say Ballantyne Resort. If that%26#39;s not really your thing and shopping and dining is more your pleasure I%26#39;d say the other.
Enjoy!
Really looking forward to seeing the area. Thanks for the advice
Does Ballantyne have suites? I know there%26#39;s a hefty price differential - Ballantyne is more expensive...but, I DO like their spa! LOL. I think it%26#39;s easier to get to Tega Cay from Ballantyne due to interstate access - much easier. Best wishes.
