My wife and I are thinking of taking a trip out to North Carolina for 5 days next winter. We are thinking of flying into Raleigh and trying to catch tickets and see a couple of games. Our preference would be: Duke, N. Carolina, then Wake. Any idea how hard it is to come by tickets to these venues? Also any suggestions on where to stay and where to eat?

I don%26#39;t know about Wake, but neither Duke nor UNC has any tickets for sale for the public. Both arenas sell out to season ticket holders who are donors or employees. For non-conference games, there are usually scalpers around with tickets for sale, but that would be a big chance to take coming all the way from Colorado. Duke (and maybe UNC) does have a few student seats for sale during Christmas break, but they are offered to season-ticket holders first, so I don%26#39;t know what your chances might be for those. Yes, Duke and UNC are tough tickets. If you are set on these venues, you may try Stubhub (or similar) as you get closer to the event. This way, you will at least have tix in hand before you make the trip. NC State is in Raleigh as well, and tix won%26#39;t be nearly as difficult (unless they are playing UNC or Duke). WF is a good hour away from these schools.
It all depends on how much you are willing to pay and when the game is. There is no sporting event in existence at which you can%26#39;t get a ticket if you are willing to pay enough.
For NC State in Raleigh, tickets are available for nearly every game (except the Carolina game...in 10 years, State only has 18 total sellouts with all 10 of their games against Carolina being sold out).
For dook, the small venue (only 9,314) makes it difficult to find tickets. However, despite published reports, all of their games are not truly sellouts as their students sometimes do not pick up all of their student allotment. If you are attending a game over winter break between semesters, you might be able to get some tickets there.
For Wake, you can probably get tickets to most games unless they are playing dook or Carolina.
For Carolina, there are usually some tickets available from scalpers due to the large venue (21,750). However, there are rarely public tickets on sale except over the winter break. If it%26#39;s a lower level non-conference game in mid to late December, you will have an easier time. (FYI, I%26#39;m a season ticket-holder who sits 7 rows from the very top of the arena despite having had tickets for almost 10 years).
Needless to say, non-conference games against weaker opponents offer the best chance to pick up tickets, often at face value, outside the arena just prior to the game, but it%26#39;s a long way to come to take that chance. Stubhub is probably the best bet. You can probably forget any match-up between any of the four area teams.
