Driving from Roanoke, VA to Savanah

I am trying to find the half way point to stop for the night. It is a 7 hour trip, but due to health problems we can only drive about 4 to 5 hours a day. Am wondering if Charlotte or some smaller town near by would be about half way? Would prefer staying in a smaller town. Can someone advise me of a town, a moderate, clean safe place to stay? Also was hoping we would be near some great BBQ places. I have heard they have great BBQ in NC and SC. How far is Charlotte from SC? Thanks for any suggestions.

Driving from Roanoke, VA to Savanah

According to google, Charlotte is a little over 3 hours from Roanoke with about 4 hours left to Savanah. If your going to take I-77 down I would reccomend staying somewhere between Mooresville, NC and Huntersville, NC, exits 36 through 25. Here is a breakdown of the exits on I-77 from Mooresville to Huntersville. As far as BBQ goes in that area only one restaurant comes to mind. Its Lancasters in Mooresville, off of Hwy 150 on Rinehardt Rd. Its pretty good, but not cooked over wood so it looses a few points in my book. But it is worth a visit. Also the other direction on Hwy 150 you have Big Daddy%26#39;s (seafood) and Lineburgers Cattle Company (steak).

Exit 25 (Huntersville) Pretty much all your fast food choices, along with Outback, Chili%26#39;s, Carabba%26#39;s, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Max %26amp; Erma%26#39;s, Longhorn, O%26#39;Charley%26#39;s. Im sure I missed a few. A few hotels but none in the Hilton/Hampton family

Exit 28 (Cornelius) Not a whole lot of chain restaurants. There is a Hampton Inn.

Exit 30 (Davidson) No chain restaurants. The Brickhouse is the only restaurant I ever eat at in Davidson. Brand New Homewood Suites.

Exit 33 (Mooresville) A few small local restaurants, Hilton Garden Inn, Springhill Suites.

Exit 36 (Mooresville) Pretty much all your fast food choices, along with Chili%26#39;s, Red Robin, O%26#39;Charley%26#39;s, Cracker Barrel, Texas Steakhouse, Applebee%26#39;s. I know I missed some others. Hampton Inn.

Thanks for your great detailed response. I have printed it to take with me on the trip.

If you would like to go further cross the stateline into SC. There are safe hotels around carowinds. Avoid the plaza also hotels off of 82b cherry rd in ok area. Nice thing about this lower prices and you will be south of rush hour. Being south of rush hour if you are planing on continuing your trip at 8 or so will save you a lot of agrivation. 77 s from huntersville in the morning is a nightmare. Not as bad as it was when only 2 lanes each way but still a royal pitb.
