The Waterway Lodge is not really on the beach. It is on the mainland just before the bridge over the intracoastal waterway, that goes to the beach. Restaurants and shops are in the area within walking distance, but the beach is a mile or so away.

Ok.. we%26#39;re gonna take a chance and go with the Carolina Temple Apts.. theres no pics of the rooms but the outside looks very beachy and the owners seem great so far.. thanks!

I have never seen the inside, but here great things about Carolina Temple. Very old time beachy, so don%26#39;t expect fancy, but great location and owners, from what I have heard. You will like it.

Thanks! Do you have any ideas for places to drive besides Southport? How far is the Orton Plantation? Is that something worth seeing.. it looks beautiful.. is that and southport a few hour thing? a full day?

Also, do you have any insight on driving down to Beaufort? I read its a nice little town with shops and the horses run wild on Carrot Island. Do you know far it is from Wilmington.. Any info would be great thanks!

Southport is about an hour south of Wilmington and it is pretty but right now I dont think much is open now,Beaufort is worth a drive there is a lot to see and do and some nice places to eat.It is an hour and a half north of Wilmington.

ok great. we are going the last week in may.

How long are you going to be there? Do you have kids? What do you like to do? shop? Eat? hike? We could give better info with more info from you. For instance, I know some hidden hikes and cool parks in Wilmington.

While Beaufort is certainly nice, there is plenty to do in the Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington area. WB is basically right beside Wilmington. So you can easily do pop over there for a day or evening, walk on the riverwalk, shop, eat, etc. THere are some historic houses there and an old theater that does plays, great restaurants, a movie studio where they film in the studio and in the area(most famously, recently, One Tree Hill) There is the Battleship North Carolina, which is always fun when I take vistors there (we have a place at WB) When I have more time, I will pop back on and give you some websites, but you could likely find good ones easy on google.

A good day trip is the Southport, but I would recommend starting fairly early with homemade donuts on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach (forget the name of the place, but they are hot and delicious) then keep driving south to the NC Aquarium at Fort Fischer, which is really nice, or if you are into history, tour the Fort. Then go hop on the ferry to Southport, bringing bread to feed the gulls off the back. Then hit southport for lunch and shopping and take the inland route back through Wilmington to WB (clear on a map) which is much quicker than the ferry.

We are staying at Wrightsville Beach for 5 nights. I do not have kids. My boyfriend and I are 25 and we love to lay on the beach, eat, shop, walk/hike...

We are planning to go to the beach on the warmest days and then do southport/beaufort maybe on the cooler ones

We would also like to see some sites where Dawson%26#39;s Creek was filmed!

Which restuarants do you recommend that have outdoor seating.. in both Wilmington and WB? My bf likes seafood I like steak/chix.. american food..

Thanks for helping!

One tree hill is filming now, if you are also into that. Just google the name and wilmington...i am sure there are tons of sites.

Sorry you were not coming down when DC was filming...you could see have the cast having breakfast every morning at Middle of the Island in WB.
