We%26#39;re staying this summer in a house right across the street from the beach, in an area where there aren%26#39;t any houses on the beach side so we should have a great view of the ocean across the street. But we%26#39;re in the middle of a long block so the public beach accesses are a ways up or down the street. I was wondering if you can walk across the dunes here. I know that many beach towns actually have laws against walking over the dunes but in pictures I%26#39;ve seen looking out from the house it looks like there might even be a couple of trails across the dunes. Are there laws in Kitty Hawk restricting whether you can walk across the dunes?
Walking on/over dunes
According to the town of Kitty Hawk website there are several crossovers.

Fonck Street
Maynard Street
Bennett Street
Luke Street
Eckner Street
Bleriot Street
Wilkins Street
Hawk Street
Balchen Street
Kitty Hawk Bath House
E. Lillian Street (3 walkovers)
Walking on/over dunes
Thanks for the info. We%26#39;re staying roughly midway between Balchen and Hawks Streets and what I really wanted to know was if we could walk straight across the dunes to get to the beach as opposed to going to one of the designated access points at the ends of those streets. I can%26#39;t find anywhere that it says we couldn%26#39;t do that but I know a lot of beach towns don%26#39;t allow it, in order to protect the dunes I guess.
there are a few places where you can cross between the 2 accesses you mention. you cannot just cross the dunes anywhere.
If you know the address of your rental, you can go on googlemaps and do a %26#39;streetview%26#39; where you%26#39;ll be able to go down the street using the arrows, if you pan to the east, you%26#39;ll see exactly where you can cross (usually there%26#39;s a garbage can at the entrance). I know there is one at the end of Starfish lane %26amp; one at Lillian st
