Wake Forest Visit

Looking for hotel suggestions - we will be touring Wake Forest. Looking for the area where the college kids would hang out during their free time to give my daughter a feel for the area. Thanks.

Wake Forest Visit

Thing is, there%26#39;s really no one single area where students hang out, other than campus obviously. Winston-Salem is not really a college town in that sense, but rather there are several different areas that are popular among students. Unfortunately none of them are within walking distance to campus with the exception of the few places around the Joel Coliseum (Putters, Elizabeth%26#39;s Pizza, Hero House, etc.).

Downtown, there%26#39;s the Burke St./1st St. area, the Arts district (6th, 7th St. area), and Fourth Street. Each of these areas has several bars/restaurants, coffee shops, interesting stores, etc.

On Reynolda Rd. just outside downtown there%26#39;s a small collection of shops/bars next to Hanes Park. Don%26#39;t miss the gelato shop!

There are a number of other student hangouts tucked away here and there, but again they%26#39;re not all in one place like some college towns.

The closest hotels to WFU are the Courtyard and Clarion on University Pkwy. There%26#39;s also a Residence Inn a little farther away on North Point Blvd. I%26#39;d suggest you consider staying closer to downtown, though, as that will give you a better feel for the city. Consider the Brookstown Inn (very nice!), Ramada Inn, or the Wingate Inn. There are also a some very nice B%26amp;B%26#39;s downtown as well--Zevely Inn in Old Salem, Shaffner House, Summit St. B%26amp;B and others. Or you could stay in one of the many hotels in the Hanes Mall area, about 10 minutes away from campus.

Good luck!
