During the summer, my wife, teenager and I will be spending one night in Charlotte before heading out to the coast. We return a week later to pick up our flight home.
I%26#39;m having a tough time figuring out where to stay. Our departure is at 4 pm so we have enough time to hang by the pool before the airport. I doubt we%26#39;ll sightsee at this point.
I%26#39;d like to be close enough but not in an iffy neighborhood. I%26#39;ve looked at Wingate Inn online. Any others? I can%26#39;t quite get a handle on neighborhoods!
thanks!
Place to stay as we come in and go out
I would not stay at Wingate Inn. I suggest Renaissance Suites, Homewood Suites, or Hyatt Place...all off Tyvola Rd/Yorkmount Rd - very near the airport but not in residential areas per se. Best wishes.
Place to stay as we come in and go out
Thanks for the response! I%26#39;ll check these out now.
Good lead on all three. Probably Hyatt, Renn and then Homewood at first glance. I wish there were more up to date reviews on the Hyatt. Issues from 3 or 4 years ago are hopefully long ago resolved.
I%26#39;m currently playing with these two; Renaissance at South Park, and the Hyatt Place by the airport. Both offer good stuff. Is the HP in an okay neighborhood?
Although the Renn is farther out, I%26#39;m also thinking about our travel plans; we arrive in the early evening from the west coast so by the time we get settled in a room, we%26#39;ll be looking for dinner. With the big mall across the street, that makes for easy access after a long day. The same will be true when we come back a week later; we%26#39;ll be driving from Hilton Head and likely not get there until late.
I think the Hyatt offers great pricing and nice rooms too so it%26#39;s a tough one!
The Renaissance is in a far nicer neighborhood, and will have more and better dining options around.
SouthPark area is nice but congested and farther from the airport. Why not Renaissance Suites near the airport. It%26#39;s a full service hotel in a quiet area less than a mile from Hyatt Place? Of course, you do have dining and entertainment options in the SP area - teenager would enjoy the mall there.
There are actually two Hyatt Places on Tyvola - a block apart.
I think the Hyatt ';issues'; mentioned above were probably for the full service Hyatt at Southpark - the Hyatt Places were bought from Amerisuites a couple of years ago and completely remodeled.
Best wishes on your trip.
I%26#39;m looking for same info, and have read/researched this thread before.
I have these choices narrowed down:
La Quinta South $80
Country Inn %26amp; Suites $89
Hyatt Place also $89
Then Homewood Suites and Renaissance Suites for $99 each.
All offer %26#39;park/sleep/fly%26#39; option which is what I need. Would like to have restaurants/bar w/in walking distance.
any preferences?
What I ended up doing is booking a Residence Inn near the mall in South Park. We%26#39;ve stayed at several (just came back from Palm Springs actually) and have generally had good treatment.
We%26#39;ll have two nights there, a week apart. Advantage is that it%26#39;s near the mall so we can get a meal plus maybe some shopping or activity. RI has a breakfast so that helps out twice. This is considered a business area hotel so the weekend rate is cheaper than weekday.
And I%26#39;ve got a Marriott Rewards card so that will add up someplace.
From that list, I%26#39;d avoid La Quinta and Country Inn
Thank you. I just called Residence Inn SP. I was told they don%26#39;t offer airport shuttle - or the park/fly deal. I think she said cab fair is aroud $30.
